Next Open PA Meeting
Our next Open PA meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 19th at   Mary Silver from the Community Education Council (CEC) will explain how the Chancellor’s new regulations will affect District 2.  We will also hear an update from the Nominating Committee regarding next Years Executive Board, to be elected and appointed in our May PA meeting.  Please come and show your support.

Forms will be sent home on Monday.  For those of you not able to attend the benefit you can look at our Auction Booklet on www.PS158.org to see all the amazing donations.

Volunteers
We really need your help to make this a terrific event.  Volunteer forms were sent home in your child’s backpack.  You can donate only one hour of time and enjoy the rest of the event.  You can also find on www.ps158.org

Please sell your raffles (you can be your own best customer!).  These are wonderful prizes!

Blackboard Awards
A parent wrote in to notify us about the Blackboard Awards.  The Blackboard Awards were created in 2002 by Manhattan Media, owners of Our Town, the West Side Spirit and Our Town Downtown newspapers, and New York Family and Avenue magazines.  The goal is to highlight notable achievements by schools across all of New York's educational systems. The Blackboard Awards program has met with an excellent response from schools, readers and the New York Press Association.  Parents may be interested in nominating our school or their child’s teacher.  The Blackboard Awards are sponsored by Our Town, and the deadline is April 27. 5th Grade Camp Mariah Trip Meeting
There will be two information meetings on Thursday, April 19 in the evening and Friday, April 20 in the morning.  Choose which one fits better for your schedule – more info. In your child’s backpack.

We hope everyone had a wonderful holiday and Spring break! 

 

Lice Check

Spring Break means checking for lice!  We urge parents to please check your child's hair and scalp for lice and nits.  This will help prevent an outbreak at school!   Reminder, on Friday, April 13, class parents will make sure all the classes are checked.  This is how we continue to stay a lice free school.

 

Next Open PA Meeting

Our next Open PA meeting is scheduled for Thursday, April 18 at 8:45 a.m.  At this meeting, we will have the following speakers:

  1. Teachers from PS 158 will describe how important Teacher College Teachers is for PS 158.
  2. Mary Silver from the Community Education Council will give us a better insight on how the changes Chancellor Klein is implementing will affect District 2

     

    Also, hear an update from our Nominating Committee regarding next year's Executive Board, to be elected at our May meeting.  Please come and show your support!

    Lenn Uchima and Peter Wei won the chess tournament at PS 6.

    Thank you Chess Master Roman Krant for teaching the PS 158 children the art of Chess.

    Metropolitan Opera House Backstage Tour

    The tour is schedule for Sunday, April 15 at 10 am and is FULLY BOOKED!  Unfortunately, we had to cut some applicants by random lottery.  Everyone has been notified by email (or phone, if no email address listed).  We’re collecting RSVPs to ferncare@aol.com by this Wednesday evening, April 11 and filling any unclaimed spots.

     

    Those who applied and could not be offered a place on this tour will receive priority registration for one of the two in-school workshops of their choosing.  Watch backpacks for next round of sign-up forms.

     

    Anyone interested in taking a public backstage tour of the Met can catch the remaining ones this spring on May 9, 10 or 11 at 3:30 pm.  Call the Met Opera Guild for details:  212-769-7020.

    Parent-Teacher Conferences

    Reminder - Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for Tuesday, March 20 (afternoon) and Wednesday, March 21 (evening). Conferences will be held Tuesday from 12:30-2:30 pm and on Wednesday from 5-7:30 pm. There will be a half day for students on Tuesday, March 20. Students will be dismissed at noon. Please check with your child’s teacher if you haven’t signed up or need more information.

    Please be mindful that young children require supervision and appropriate plans should be made to accommodate. It is unsafe to have small children unsupervised in school. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.

    Parent Workshops

    Please join us for a Parent Workshop on word study/spelling. We have the unique opportunity to host two experts in this field, Regina and David Smith. You will have a chance to gain further insight into their approach to word study/spelling and engage in a question and answer session.

    Executive Board Positions Available

    The Nominating Committee is seeking nominations for parents to serve on next year’s Parents Association Executive Board. This is a wonderful opportunity to get more involved in your child’s education and make a difference in your school experience. Executive Board members must attend a monthly P.A. Executive Board meeting, as well as the monthly P.A. general meetings and chair a committee or an event.

    If you are interested, please complete an application by the end of March. Please step forward and become a member of the team.
